Day 112: Psalm 19- God is Speaking

5/9/2020

Picture
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. 6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his errors?  Declare me innocent from hidden faults. 13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Meditation
People wonder, is God far off? Where is God in times of uncertainty and trouble? Does He care? Will He speak to me?!? Psalm 19 is a resounding YES! And turns the question around- Are we far off? Will we listen to Him? God is speaking generally, through creation, and specially through His word.

Creation still speaks- We must go outside and listen.

Creation declares God’s glory, proclaims His wisdom, and reveals His knowledge day after day throughout all the earth. (1-2) The language is from love, as from a bridegroom. (4-6) God invites His people to hear His word of sovereignty, order, regeneration, and life through His creation. After winter comes spring. After darkness of night there is dawn of a new day. God is faithful!

Scripture is reliable- Will we trust God’s revealed word?

The perfect design of God revives our soul and gives wisdom (7) as it rejoices our heart and enlightens our sight. (8) Scripture is true and righteous, (9) more valuable than gold and sweeter than honey. (10) Will we seek the reward of God’s revelation? (11) God’s word protects His people (12-13) and compels us to be faithful to our promise keeping God. (14)

God wants to speak to His people, He is not far off and He is not silent. He is with us in times of trouble and wants us to find refuge in Him.

Richly Dwelling
-Creation speaks so clearly that all people are without excuse in not knowing or hearing from God. (Romans 1:20) When was the last time you listen to God’s general revelation in creation?

-God’s revelation through Scripture is reliable for our expectations and needs. Do we trust Scripture, valuing it more than gold? Why or why not?

-What are two ways you can grow in listening to God, recognizing He is near and not far off and wanting to speak to you?

Key Verse
1- The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
