May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! 2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion! 3 May he remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah
4 May he grant you your heart's desire and fulfill all your plans! 5 May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions! 6 Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. 8 They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright. 9 O Lord, save the king! May he answer us when we call. Meditation Years ago I participated in a trust fall, standing on a phone pole about 6 feet off the ground. “Spotters are you ready?” “Ready,” the team said. “Falling!” I yelled. “Fall!” The team invited. I fell through their arms and hit the ground. My team over promised and under-delivered. The trust in my team fell that day. Psalm 20 is electric with atmosphere as it is sung before battle. The “you” of the Psalm refers to the Lord’s anointed (6) who leads God’s people into combat. The people’s pleas are prayers that shape their hearts, too: The Lord will answer you! (1) He will help and support you! (2) He gives victory, the desire of your heart, (4) and you will shout for joy in His victory! (5) The Lord’s anointed trusts only in the name of the Lord. (7) All else will drop us, unworthy of our trust. (8) The Lord’ anointed is ultimately Jesus Christ and His victory turns these prayers into promises. Jesus won the battle over sin and death and answers us when we call, helping and supporting us in our time of need. Jesus gives us the desires of our hearts when we trust fully in Him, leading us to shout for joy in a victorious life. Only the strength of our Covenant God holds us from falling to the ground. When we trust in the Lord our God we are secure in His victory, empowered to live victoriously in every battle of our life. Richly Dwelling -Have you had a team or someone drop you when you trusted them? How does this affect your trust in the Lord? -The victory of Christ makes the pleas of Psalm 20 into prayers for God’s people. Take a moment to pray the Psalm. -How can you step out in faith for a deeper trust in the Lord? Key Verse 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
