The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked
1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. Meditation A tree by streams of water will continue to be fruitful during seasons of drought and difficulty- such is the person who walks in God’s word. I have a friend who lives this reality with his life. Diagnosed with cancer about the same time as me, almost three years ago, over a meal as we began our chemotherapy journey our relationship quickly became a source of strength. He is a model of a man of faith who does not whither, continuing to bear fruit during seasons of drought and difficulty. My friend has an amazing mind and quotes Scripture, evidencing both delight of and meditation on God’s Word. My health journey has become stable while his grows more difficult. His body is battered by the battle but his love and light has not withered. His endurance is a testimony to his rootedness and meditation on the word, living water nourishing his soul. You cannot talk to my friend without hearing about Jesus or seeing Jesus in him. Blessing does not look like health and wealth but fullness and fruitfulness in every season. Those who walk in the way of the wicked will not be stable or taste the richness of life. They will not prosper or give life. They will be blown away. Sink your roots deep in the Living Water of God’s word through your head (meditation), feet (walking in His ways), and heart (delight in His law). Richly Dwelling -Psalm 1 kicks off the Hymnbook of God’s people teaching us what a blessed life looks like. Are you dwelling richly by streams of water through sinking your roots deeply into the living Water of God’s Word? -Do you wither when the weather is not fair? Or are you fruitful during seasons of difficulty and drought? What does this say about where you are rooted? -Where is your head meditating on God’s law? Where are your feet walking in God’s ways? What is your heart’s delight? God offers you wise ways- walk in them. Key Verse Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
