Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. 4 The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. 5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf, and Sirion like a young wild ox. 7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire. 8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth and strips the forests bare, and in his temple all cry, “Glory!” 10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever. 11 May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace! Meditation Are you unsettled in the storm, fearful from the wind and waves? The disciples were afraid when they were struggling in the storm and Jesus was sleeping beside them in the boat. Jesus awoke and rebuked their lack of faith and stilled the storm with His voice (Matthew 8:23-27). The wind and waves obey the voice of the Lord. The voice of the Lord is a central thread to Psalm 29, thundering over the waters of the flood with power and majesty (3-4). The voice of the Lord destroys and brings life (5-6) as it brings fire and shakes the wilderness (7-8). The voice of the Lord calls forth life and strips life bare (9). The voice of the Lord has total authority and commands the Heavenly hosts to ascribe glory and majesty to the King above the storm (1-3). God’s people are to join the chorus in giving God the glory due to his name, even during the storm- GLORY! (9). Have you joined the chorus? The Lord sits enthroned over the flood (10), above the storm, and the voice of the Lord rules the wind and waves. We are invited to have faith in the Lord, trusting Him for strength and the blessing of peace. The final word of the Psalm is an invitation to all who believe, “Peace.” Delitzsch calls the word, “… a rainbow arc over the entire Psalm.” After the flood, peace comes from the King above the storm. Richly Dwelling -Are you anxious or fearful from the storm of society right now? Please offer an honest assessment of where you are mentally and emotionally. -The voice of the Lord rules everything because the King is above the storm. The voice that spoke creation into existence wants to give you strength and peace. Do you trust His voice? -How can you position yourself to hear the voice of the Lord more clearly and have a posture to obey His voice more faithfully?
