When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language, 2 Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. 3 The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. 4 The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. 5 What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? 6 O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? 7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, 8 who turns the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of water. Meditation Jesus is the King of kings and desires to rule as Lord of our hearts and have dominion over our lives. God’s grace invites us to rejoice in Christ’s rule and reign. God redeemed Israel from Egypt (1) to rule their hearts in relationship. God dwelled with Judah and ruled over Israel (2) as He ruled the seas, rivers, mountains, and animal (3-6). The sovereign rule of the Lord should make our hearts tremble (7-8). The steadfast love of the Lord invites us into intimate relationship, restoration found under His rule and reign. The prophets proclaim a day when God’s rule will cover the world. God will rule over every kingdom (Daniel 2:44) and king of the earth (Zechariah 14:9). David’s dynasty will reign over the whole world (Psalm 89) and God’s glory will cover the earth as the water covers the sea (Habakkuk 2:14). God’s dominion will extend over everything and everyone beginning in the hearts and homes of His people. Jesus is both Savior and Lord. Jesus redeems us from sin to rule us in sanctity. Jesus has delivered Christians from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of the Father’s beloved son, through whom we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:13-14). A right response to this redemption is to rejoice in the rule of God in our hearts and homes! Richly Dwelling -Do you rejoice in the rule of God from your heart and in your home, obeying His lordship in all of life? Why or why not? -How does hope in God’s eternal and total rule empower faith to trust His rule and reign today? -Where in your life can you respond to God’s grace through more faithfully submitting to Jesus as King? Be specific. Key Verse 2 Judah became his sanctuary, Israel his dominion. Comments are closed.
