On Wednesdays we “walk in the Word” through study & application of Biblical doctrine. Today's meditation is a personal testimony from a theology student. One of my great privileges is to participate in the theological formation of leaders through the Light of Hope Foundation in Indonesia (YYPH). This week a cohort participant shared the below reflection after our readings and discussion on knowing the Holy Spirit through covenant relationship. It is true: Rightly understanding Biblical doctrine fuels doxology, delight in Jesus, & gospel centered discipleship. For a taste of this teaching, see tomorrow's reading & meditation! Key Verse "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it ton their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people." Jeremiah 31:33 Sleepy Christians: Wake Up!
"I was greatly strengthened by today's Scripture reading because I once found it very difficult to accept the concept of being saved by grace alone. Cognitively, I knew this concept, but in my heart, I "rejected" it because my belief system was shaped by the concept of conditional acceptance. Therefore, I tried to be actively involved in church services so that I could receive God's love, enter His heaven, and avoid His punishment in hell. My relationship with God has been very transactional. I "bought" salvation through my service and financial offerings. The anxiety and fear of death were very great. But after I understood the concept of the Covenant, knowing Jesus Christ through His representative work and by His grace, I gradually began to be freed from the shackles of fear and anxiety. God's Covenant love is not based on my changeable feelings, but on the promises of God that are all "yes!" in Jesus Christ. He is the Creator of heaven and earth, who is full of certainty, who makes my heart His home through the Holy Spirit. He is very trustworthy and faithful. Glory to God alone!" Key Verse "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it ton their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people." Jeremiah 31:33
