Key verse
1 O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? Meditation The heartbeat of redemptive history is God’s relentless commitment to dwell with His people. From the garden to the wilderness tabernacle, from the temple in Jerusalem to the person and work of Jesus Christ, Scripture tells one unified story: God restoring His dwelling with those He loves. In Christ, this story moves toward its glorious fulfillment, when “the dwelling place of God is with man” (Revelation 21:3). Until that day, believers taste this reality through union with Christ, sealed by His Spirit who dwells within us. After Psalm 14 exposes the sobering reality that no one seeks God or is righteous, Psalm 15 rightly asks: “O Lord, who shall dwell on Your holy hill?” (v. 1). David answers with a portrait of the person who abides with God, listing ten marks alternating between vices and virtues: walk blamelessly, do right, speak truth, reject slander, shun evil, take no reproach, honor those who fear the Lord, keep promises, live generously, and refuse unjust gain. The conclusion is striking: “He who does these things shall never be moved” (vv. 2-5). This standard describes and diagnoses. Left to ourselves, none of us is “ten for ten.” God’s design for dwelling exposes our sin, leading to repentance and driving us to Jesus. Jesus alone perfectly fulfills every requirement, and through His finished work, believers are welcomed into God’s presence. By faith, we dwell with God in Christ. By His Spirit, we begin to be shaped like Christ. The “list of ten” that once condemned is now a standard we seek to achieve, from grace to grow in godliness as we dwell with our God and live for His glory. Today’s Reading O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill? 2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; 3 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; 4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; 5 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved. Richly Dwelling -What stands out to you from today’s reading, especially from David’s question, response, and the promise of God to not be moved from dwelling with Him? -Where are you off, missing the mark from the 10 descriptors of those who dwell with God? -How does the gospel, the finished work of God in Jesus, both indict you and lead you to repent and invite you into a deeper abiding with Him? Key verse 1 O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill?
