Key Verse
1- The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Meditation People often ask if God is distant or silent in seasons of uncertainty. Psalm 19 turns the question around: God is not far off; He is speaking to be known by His creatures. The question is whether we are listening. God reveals Himself in two ways. First, through creation. The heavens “declare” and “proclaim” His glory, pouring out speech without words (vv. 1-3). What the Canons of Dort call the “book of nature” testifies to God’s eternal power and divine nature (Romans 1:19-20). Day after day, creation preaches a sermon of God’s faithfulness: sunrise after darkness, spring after winter. Like a bridegroom rejoicing (vv. 4-6), the sun runs its course, inviting us to see God’s order, beauty, and steadfast love. God speaks more clearly through His Word, specially to His people for salvation and an intimate relationship. Scripture is perfect, reviving the soul; sure, making wise the simple; right, rejoicing the heart; and pure, enlightening the eyes (vv. 7-8). God’s Word is more valuable than gold and sweeter than honey (vv. 9-11). Through it, God warns, guides, and guards His people, leading us into life with Him (vv. 12-13). Psalm 19 leaves the worshipper with a fitting response: humble dependence on God and His word marked by a hunger for His word to fill our hearts as we celebrate Him as our Rock and Redeemer (v. 14). God is not silent. He reveals Himself to be known. In every sunrise and every page of Scripture, He draws near, calling us to listen, trust, and take refuge in Him. Today’s Reading The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. 2 Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. 6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them, and there is nothing hidden from its heat. 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. 12 Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults. 13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. Richly Dwelling -Creation speaks so clearly that all people are without excuse in not knowing or hearing from God. (Romans 1:20) When was the last time you listen to God’s general revelation in creation? -God’s revelation through Scripture is reliable for our expectations and needs. Do we trust Scripture, valuing it more than gold? Why or why not? -What are two ways you can grow in listening to God, recognizing He is near and not far off and wanting to speak to you? Key Verse 1- The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
