Psalm 24: A Prayer for Glory

Meditation
Lord, hear our prayer.
 
You are the King of glory, the sovereign Creator and rightful possessor of all the earth (vv. 1-2). Everything belongs to You and exists for Your glory. We confess that we have resisted Your rule, seeking autonomy rather than joyful submission to Your sovereign reign.

You declare that only those with clean hands and pure hearts may ascend Your holy hill (vv. 3-4). Left to ourselves, we cannot stand in Your presence. Our hands are stained with sin, our hearts divided by idols, and our worship corrupted by pride and self-love. We need the righteousness only You can provide.
 
You have called us to reflect Your justice, mercy, and holiness, but we have loved comfort more than obedience. We have remained silent when truth should have been spoken, withheld generosity when love required sacrifice, and allowed pride, politics, possessions, and personal preferences to fracture the unity Christ purchased with His blood.
 
Forgive us, O King of glory. Thank You that Jesus Christ, the true and eternal King, ascended Your holy hill in perfect righteousness on behalf of His people. Through His obedient life, atoning death, and victorious resurrection, grant us the blessing and righteousness that come from the God of our salvation (v. 5).
 
By Your sovereign grace, cleanse our hands, purify our hearts, and compel us by Your Spirit to seek Your face (v. 6). Lift the ancient doors of our hearts that the King of glory may enter and reign fully within us (v. 7). Lord Jesus, You are strong and mighty, victorious in battle (v. 8), reigning now as the Lord of hosts over every power and authority (v. 10).
 
May your glory fill our hearts, homes, and the earth as the water covers the sea. In Jesus name we pray, AMEN.

the world and those who dwell therein, 
2    for he has founded it upon the seas 
and established it upon the rivers. 
3    Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?

who does not lift up his soul to what is false 
and does not swear deceitfully. 
5    He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

7    Lift up your heads, O gates! 
And be lifted up, O ancient doors, 
that the King of glory may come in. 
8    Who is this King of glory? 
The Lord, strong and mighty, 
the Lord, mighty in battle!

that the King of glory may come in. 
10    Who is this King of glory? 
The Lord of hosts,
