Key Verse
2 Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting. Meditation God is “King eternal” (1 Timothy 1:17), the Alpha and the Omega (beginning and the end- Revelation 1:8) and “the ancient of days” (Daniel 7:9). God alone is “from everlasting” (v. 2) because the Lord is the everlasting God (Isaiah 40:28) who “dwells in eternity” (Isaiah 57:15) and rules “forevermore” (v. 5) Seven of the next eight Psalms celebrate God’s reign as King, emphasizing the opportunity to lift the eyes of our heart to Heaven to see the rule and reign of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Above the problems and the pain, God’s people must proclaim that our God reigns! The Lord is robed in majesty, ruling over everything. Strength surrounds the Lord’s eternal throne (vv. 1-2). Tumult surrounds us in troubled waters, floods and furry in our Father’s fallen world (vv. 3-4). The Lord’s decrees are “mightier than the waves of the sea” and by them He rules forevermore (v. 5). Though the word seems turbulent, God rules. Though the waves crash and storms rage, God rules. Jesus is King of Kings, ruling over everything. Jesus rules over what is seen and unseen, ever power and authority in this world is His servant (see Colossians 1:15-20). Jesus has conquered our greatest enemy, death itself. Jesus displays His sovereign grace by turning what the enemy intends for evil and using it for good. Jesus is on the throne, right now, as you read, and He is “making all things new” (Revelation 21:5). Rejoice, the Lord is King! And Jesus Christ is redeeming. Today’s Reading The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. 2 Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting. 3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring. 4 Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty! 5 Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore.
