The gift of lifelong marriage

Some friends stayed with us recently at The Dwelling Mountain Home and shared this picture of a dish towel before they left (Lisa wishes they had thrown in the towel). If you're not married, it might sound a little harsh. If you've been married for a while, especially as long as Lisa and I, you are laughing with us. 
         Marriage is one of God's greatest gifts, not because it is easy but because through it we learn the depth of God's covenant love and are shaped to become more like Jesus.  One day, every faithful marriage will gladly give way to the greater reality it has always pointed toward: the marriage supper of the Lamb and the eternal union of Jesus with His Bride, the Church. Until then, every ordinary day, every shared laugh or tear, and every act of sacrificial love is preparing our hearts for the day we see our Bridegroom face to face.
